Washington

Washington offers a wide variety of collectible minerals and lapidary material beyond thundereggs, making it a rewarding state for rockhounds of all levels. Agates and jasper are abundant along riverbeds and coastal areas, with notable finds in the Columbia Basin, Green River, and beaches near the Olympic Peninsula. Ellensburg Blue Agate, found near the town of Ellensburg, is one of the rarest and most sought-after agates in the U.S. The state is also known for petrified wood, especially from the Saddle Mountain area, as well as opal, quartz crystals, and occasional garnets in metamorphic zones. With such geologic variety, Washington continues to yield new discoveries across its mountains, deserts, and coastal plains.
