Pike Creek Bed

The Pike Creek Bed, located in southeastern Harney County near the base of the Steens Mountains, is a remote and rugged thunderegg site that offers distinctive high-desert material. Thundereggs from Pike Creek are typically medium to large, with dense rhyolite exteriors and agate interiors that range from soft blue and gray to deep red and golden brown. Some specimens feature mossy or cloud-like inclusions, while others display subtle banding or quartz-filled centers. The isolation of the site adds to its appeal, making Pike Creek a destination for serious rockhounds seeking unique and uncommonly seen Oregon agate.
