Owyhee Jasper

Owyhee Jasper, found in the Owyhee Mountains along the Oregon–Idaho border, is a highly regarded picture jasper celebrated for its scenic patterns and soft, desert-inspired color palette. Typically displaying layered landscapes in shades of tan, cream, dusty blue, and muted red, Owyhee Jasper often resembles painted canyon walls or rolling badlands. It formed from silica-rich sediments deposited in ancient volcanic lakebeds, later compressed and mineralized over time. Lapidary artists value Owyhee Jasper for its ability to take a high polish and for the serene, natural imagery revealed in each cut. Its combination of durability and visual depth makes it a favorite among collectors and artisans alike.
