Hood River

Thundereggs from the Hood River area in northern Oregon are uncommon and often overlooked, but they occasionally turn up in ancient gravel deposits and eroded volcanic layers along the river and surrounding terrain. These nodules are typically small to medium in size, with interiors that range from milky to translucent agate in soft grays, whites, and occasional pastel tones. The matrix, when present, is often weathered and rounded from water transport, giving some specimens a smoothed, natural finish. While not a primary thunderegg destination, the Hood River area offers intriguing possibilities for collectors willing to explore its geologic fringes.
