Friends Ranch

The Friends Ranch, located in Malheur County, Oregon, is a historic thunderegg site that has produced some of the region’s most colorful and detailed nodules. Thundereggs from this location are known for their vivid agate centers—often featuring rich reds, yellows, and purples—with intricate moss, plume, or sagenite inclusions. The matrix is typically a tan to reddish rhyolite, and eggs are usually medium to large in size with solid structure, making them excellent for slicing and polishing. Friends Ranch material has long been prized by collectors and lapidaries alike for its bold internal contrast and strong desert character.
