Little Alvord Bed

The Little Alvord Bed, located in Harney County near the eastern edge of the Alvord Desert, produces thundereggs known for their bold colors and intricate internal structures. Eggs from this site often contain vibrant agate in shades of red, orange, and smoky gray, sometimes with fine moss or dendritic inclusions that add depth and movement to cut faces. The rhyolite matrix is typically light-colored and weathered, making these nodules stand out in the field. Though remote and not widely collected, Little Alvord thundereggs are prized by those who seek high-contrast material with strong lapidary appeal and desert provenance.
