Alvord View Bed

The Alvord View Bed in Harney County, Oregon, is a remote thunderegg site known for producing nodules with vivid agate centers and striking desert-weathered exteriors. Positioned near the Alvord Desert’s rim, these eggs often contain translucent agate in hues of orange, red, and smoky gray, sometimes with mossy or fortification patterns. The eggs are typically medium-sized and well-formed, with a gritty, pale rhyolite matrix. Though lesser known than other Oregon beds, Alvord View material is valued for its clarity and contrast, offering a unique slice of the high desert’s volcanic history.
